When stress and exhaustion become a repeated struggle,

Burnout Therapy in Vancouver & Calgary Can Help You Find a Way Forward

You Know Something's Off, Even If You Can't Name It Yet

Maybe you're still getting things done, technically, but nothing feels efficient anymore. Tasks that used to take an hour now take three. You're irritable with people you love, and then you feel guilty about that on top of everything else.

Maybe you took a vacation and came back just as exhausted as before you left, which was confusing and a little frightening. Or you keep waiting to feel that sense of accomplishment you used to chase, and it just isn't there anymore, even when you finish something big.

You're not lazy, and you're not broken. Burnout has a real physiological footprint, and it doesn't resolve on its own just because you push through it. It's also common, especially among people who care deeply about doing things well.

What Burnout Actually Is

Burnout isn't just being tired. It's what happens when the gap between what you're doing and what you actually value gets too wide for too long, often without you noticing it happening.

It shows up differently for different people. For some, it's the classic career burnout: the high performer who keeps reaching for the next thing and never feels like it's enough. For others, it's the stay-at-home parent trying to do it all, or the caregiver whose own needs have quietly stopped mattering. Perfectionism and overachieving tend to be common threads.

The most common signs we see:

  • Feeling inefficient at things that used to come easily

  • Disconnection: from people in your life, from things you used to care about

  • Irritability and being on edge more often than not

  • Loss of that sense of accomplishment, even after finishing something significant

  • Physical symptoms: headaches, migraines, GI issues, chronic tension in the body

If more than a couple of these sound familiar, that's a reasonable moment to consider support, not a sign you've failed at something.

How We Help With Burnout Therapy

Our approach starts from a different place than you might expect. We don't assume the goal is to simply do less. For a lot of overachievers, "just cut back" doesn't feel like a real answer, and honestly, it isn't always the right one.

Instead, we work with you on whether what you're doing actually lines up with what you value. Often there's a mismatch there, and closing that gap tends to matter more than the raw number of hours on your calendar. From there, we help you build a version of your life that's sustainable, not one where you recover just enough to keep pushing until you burn out again.

Meghan Hole, Registered Psychologist (Alberta) leads much of our burnout work. Her background includes experience as a teacher, and she works with teens (13 to 18) and adults using Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), DBT-informed approaches, CBT, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, all delivered through a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based lens. She has a particular interest in helping people who are dealing with burnout, overwhelm, and self-esteem struggles that often travel together.

Azura Kines, Registered Clinical Counsellor (British Columbia) also supports clients experiencing burnout, including caregiver burnout and the kind of exhaustion that builds up around addiction or disordered eating in a household. Her approach draws on EFT for Couples, CBT, DBT, and Internal Family Systems, with an attachment-informed, trauma-aware foundation.

Both are part of the multi-practitioner team built by founder Alshaba Billawala Jouen, whose own clinical focus includes helping overachievers reconnect with what actually matters to them. All virtual, all confidential, from a space that's already comfortable for you.

What Changes When Burnout Therapy Works

  • You start feeling effective again instead of just busy

Reconnecting with the people and things you'd drifted away from

Fewer physical symptoms: less tension, fewer headaches, better sleep

  • A working sense of what recovery actually requires, not the two-week-vacation myth

  • A more sustainable version of ambition, one that doesn't burn you out again in six months

  • Recovery from burnout is rarely instant, and we won't pretend otherwise. But it is possible to build something that holds.

Frequently Asked Questions About Burnout Therapy

Is burnout therapy just going to tell me to work less?

No. For a lot of our clients, especially people who take real pride in their work, "do less" isn't a satisfying or realistic answer. We focus on whether your day-to-day actually matches your values, and help you build something sustainable from there.

I took a vacation and I'm still burnt out. Why didn't that fix it?

Because burnout has a real physical toll on your body, including your stress response system, and a week or two off doesn't reverse that. Recovery is more gradual, and therapy helps you build a realistic roadmap for it.

How is burnout therapy different from therapy for anxiety or depression?

There's overlap, and burnout can show up alongside both. But burnout therapy specifically looks at the mismatch between what you're doing and what you value, plus the physical and emotional toll of prolonged overextension. If anxiety or depression is also part of your experience, we treat that alongside burnout, not instead of it.

Do you take insurance or offer direct billing?

We offer direct billing where available. Bring your coverage details to your free consultation and we'll walk you through it.

What if I'm not sure this is burnout?

That's exactly what the free consultation is for. You don't need a diagnosis before reaching out. If burnout therapy isn't the right fit, we'll help point you toward what is.

Ready to Stop Running on Empty?

You don't have to keep flip-flopping between pushing through and quietly falling apart. Burnout therapy can help you build a life that's sustainable, one that fits your actual values instead of just your to-do list.
